Netflix has announced that the re-edited film Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express: Local Train to the Theater will begin streaming in the United States on June 1. This film is a reworked version of Yōhei Kameyama's 2025 anime series, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, which originally ran for 12 episodes and is noted for its unique, momentum-driven space spectacle. The anime, produced by Shin-Ei Animation, holds a 7.94 rating on MyAnimeList.

The film version includes new content beyond the original 12 episodes. For fans in Japan, a special re-edited version titled Rinji Zōhatsu Milky☆Subway Kakueki Teisha Gekijō Iki (Extra Service Milky☆Subway Local Train to the Theater) with additional scenes is set to screen starting June 12 in MX4D, 4DX, and 2D formats. The film's cast includes Momoka Terasawa and Anna Nagase reprising their roles as Chiharu and Makina, respectively.

In addition to the Milky☆Subway film, Netflix is also adding several other notable titles to its U.S. library in late May and early June. This includes BLUE LOCK VS. U-20 JAPAN and My Dress-Up Darling: Season 2, both available from May 25. Following on June 1 are Assassination Classroom: Season 2, Shangri-La Frontier: Season 2, and two parts of One Piece: Whole Cake Island (arcs 6 and 7). The series Akane-banashi also became available on May 16.

The original Milky☆Subway anime premiered in July 2025, simultaneously airing on Tokyo MX and streaming on YouTube, with dubbed versions also available globally on the platform. The story follows a misfit crew sentenced to clean an old interplanetary train, the "Milky☆Subway," which unexpectedly launches into deep space, leading to chaotic adventures. The film's theme song is "Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!" by the 1977 girl group Candies. Yōhei Kameyama also directed the original short Milky☆Highway in 2022, which served as a precursor to the series.
