A television anime adaptation of Jirou Sugiura and Umemaru's fantasy manga Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi (The Fake Alchemist) is in production, Kadokawa announced on Thursday. Animation duties will be handled by Studio Passione, known for their work on titles like Higurashi: When They Cry - Gou. A teaser visual and an announcement promo video were released alongside the news.
The manga, which began serialization on Kadokawa's ComicWalker service in June 2023, has achieved significant popularity, surpassing 1 million copies in circulation. The first volume was released in January 2024, with the fifth volume following in February. The series originally started on pixiv in February 2020.
In the West, Yen Press licensed the manga for English release in August 2025, with the first volume shipping on February 24 and the second volume slated for June 23. The series also garnered recognition, ranking 12th in the web manga category of the Next Manga Award 2022.
The story follows Paracelsus, a young man transported to another world who turns to alchemy to survive, albeit through less-than-honest means. Alongside his companion Nora, he navigates the challenges of this new realm.
